VIRGINIA REPUBLICAN POLITICIAN OFFERS ENLIGHTENED VIEWS ON RACE AND RELIGION

One of my favorite Seinfeld episodes was the one where Jerry was dating a woman who never laughed. Then he met her roommate who laughed the way Jerry liked a woman to. He was perplexed about how he could dump the girl and then date the roommate.

Relationship guru George Costanza told him it was impossible.

GEORGE: Do you realize in the entire history of western civilization no one has
successfully accomplished the Roommate Switch? In the Middle Ages you
could get locked up for even suggesting it!

JERRY: They didn't have roommates in the Middle Ages.

GEORGE: Well, I'm sure at some point between the years 800 and
1200--somewhere--there were two women living together.

JERRY: The point is I intend to undertake this. And I'll do it with or without
you. So if you're scared, if you haven't got the stomach for this, let's
get it out right now! And I'll go on my own. If not, you can get on
board and we can get to work! Now what's it going to be?

GEORGE: All right, dammit, I'm in.

So after days of brainstorming with no results George has an epiphany. He suggests that Jerry propose a menage a tois; with the hope of repelling the woman and getting the opening for the roommate. The plan goes wrong when the roommate tells Jerry that they are both into it. Which leads to my favorite George line of all time.

GEORGE: Do you ever just get down on your knees and thank god that
you know me and have access to my dementia?

The impossibility "The Switch" was upheld. Like so many other dreams man has of knowing and doing the unknowable and undoable it died then and there.

One other thing, besides "The Switch", which seemed impossible before yesterday was that a white mainstream Christian politician could insult and infuriate blacks and jews in a single paragraph's worth of speech, on a legislative floor nonetheless.

Well, the impossibility of "The Switch" remains intact. Not so the BLACK/JEW DAILY DOUBLE.

A.P.1/17/07
RICHMOND, Va. — A state legislator said black people "should get over" slavery and questioned whether Jews should apologize "for killing Christ," drawing denunciations Tuesday from stunned colleagues.

Delegate (R) Frank D. Hargrove, who is white and Christian, made his remarks in opposition to a measure that would apologize on the state's behalf to the descendants of slaves.

In an interview published Tuesday in The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Hargrove, 79, said slavery ended nearly 140 years ago with the Civil War and added that "our black citizens should get over it."

The newspaper also quoted him as saying, "are we going to force the Jews to apologize for killing Christ?"

Black lawmakers swiftly denounced Hargrove's comments.

"When somebody tells me I should just get over slavery, I can only express my emotion by projecting that I am appalled, absolutely appalled," said Delegate Dwight C. Jones, head of the Legislative Black Caucus.

Delegate David L. Englin also criticized Hargrove's remarks, recalling that his grandparents were driven from their homes in Poland "by people who believed that as Jews, we killed Christ."

When Hargrove rose to speak, he told Englin he didn't care about Englin's religion. "I think your skin was a little too thin," Hargrove said as lawmakers gasped and groaned.

So its been done. This is a truly monumentalachievementt and Mr. Hargrove should be lauded for this incredible display, once thought impossible by all but the most delusional.

Another enlightened political soul from the Commonwealth of Virgina offering his enlightenedwisdomm on race. I wonder if he and "Mr. Maccaca" former (R) Senator George Allen sit around drinking Scotch and smoking cigars while dreaming of "the good old days?"

Yes people racism is alive and well in America.Insensitivityy and the inability to empathise with and understand the fact that there are people alive today whose great-grandparents were slaves who have not quite "got over it yet" are still hallmarks of our great society.

So here's to you Mr. Hargrave, you have proven that anything is possible and that the American Dream is still alive. You did better than "The Switch" you did the BLACK/JEW DAILY DOUBLE and pulled it off with aplomb and lack of regret.

You have given new inspiration to men everywhere who still believe they can one day pull off "The Switch."
